Online space for beginning and emerging writers.
Substack popped onto my radar at the right time. When I mention my angel giving me nudges to do things you may disappear, but well… some of you might understand. You have been led here for something and so have I.
I’m continuing to build an online writing community
Living in the beautiful arse-end of Donegal, Ireland, I need wifi to make writing networks. And, I’ve already developed online writing groups. But, due to the members’ hard work and success, I’m almost redundant!
I could give you my best bio, but really I’m just a writer. Like you, I want to have fun with my writing. For a long time too, I was a closet writer. No one was aware of my typing or scribbles.
Are you the same? Online writing groups are great for anonymity. (If you need to, you can remain quiet until your confidence grows). Do you need help or information to start writing? What do you need to know?
I’m what is called a hybrid writer. I’m published in various ways since 2017 and I write full-time for fun. The stuff I talk about is my historical crime fiction and I’m on the cusp (again) of taking the plunge into self-publishing under a pen name.
Maybe, you might like to know more about this?
5 things I wanted when beginning
Permission to write without caring. I had to stop worrying about my mother reading my words. I realised the fun was in writing for myself. I wrote like no one was watching or reading.
Somewhere that understood me. I wanted to be online with a group I didn’t have to face. I found a safe space where I could share my bits and bobs and hear what others were doing.
To forget being clever and literary. I didn’t want writing to be all fancy big words and correct grammar. I let all that slide. Feck it!
For my writing to be my secret until I was ready. I wanted to have my own hobby, for me, and not share my passions straight away. I also know people who don’t want criticism of their work. They just want to write in a place where there is very little judgment and lots of praise. (This can change, but then so can the space you’re in).
Help getting started and finding my voice. The world of writing is vast. I had no clue where to begin.
Is this helpful to you? Does it ring a bell? Feel free to leave a comment.
I got an agent and four of my manuscripts were published. I can discuss these journeys over the next while.
But, the main reason I succeeded was that I found my writing tribe online. I aim to rekindle this magic. Paid courses and groups are great but I want to begin with the offer of some FREE online space to those starting out.

Well done! It sounds good.
This is right up my alley. I am also writing for myself. I am very early in the process and only have bits and pieces of scenes written. Just finding my stride. I have been providing some feedback to writers on Reddit once in a while, though.
