In this podcast episode, I chat with David about how important reading our work aloud is.
David Simpson is an author and poet who lives in Inishowen in north Donegal. He turned his love of trees into children’s stories which he read in local schools for several years. After self-publishing three children’s books, The Mist, Holly, and Four Trees, he has now recorded nine tree stories onto his podcast: Celtic Tree Stories and Meditations.
During Covid, he took part in two online poetry courses addressing issues people were facing as they lived through lockdown. His poems were included in two anthologies, one of which was called ‘Calm Waters During the Storm, Donegal Tales from a Pandemic.’
A fellow writer, during those difficult years, introduced David to tenx9, a Zoom meeting where nine writers can tell a story for ten minutes. However, the story had to be true about them. David gained real confidence as a writer of memoir pieces over several months from the positive reactions and feedback.
Recently he was a participant in two Writing Fun courses run by Sharon Thompson. Out of these courses came the Greencastle Writers Group. David is now working on a children’s novel and an adult novel.
