Do you see your writing being made into a film or TV series?
I read, write, and watch romance. I like the appeal of happy endings and the familiar tropes. As I write I see my scenes playing out and because it’s hot romance I confess to picturing people having sex. Shock. Horror. It was while imagining my work on a screen, I thought…
Where are the fully naked men on film/TV?
We get an odd ogle at a man’s buttock and little else. There’s no denying a man’s bum is the nicest bit…so happy days. But why is it that it’s mostly full female nudity on our screens?
The images of pert boobs and legs the length of the great wall of China, don’t represent the majority of us. This encourages the male audience to drool at a fantasy that rarely exists, but why not lie to heterosexual women too? Are we not an audience to be satisfied?
I’m frustrated.
Hence, I feel it’s time I call for more fully naked men. (*Please note I’ve no qualms if the muscly forms are not representative of real men and I’m glad for the likes of talented Barry Keoghan in Saltburn.)
Now, I know some of you may not want more of the male body…but well — let me ask why men are not often fully stripped for the sake of a good plot too?
Perhaps, I should call for a ban on such naked nonsense altogether? But, I believe in the beauty of the human form, (unless it’s my own). I see no shame in viewing nudes, but my tastes are completely ignored.
If things were equal, surely I’d be embarrassed about my request? Surely I would?
Where are there glorious examples of male nudity in film or TV? Enlighten me.
Could and should we see more of this?
Porn is a different kettle of fish and if women are not watching it their tastes are not catered for. With more female investors, directors etc this is slowly changing. Women consume huge amounts of romance and erotica and I believe there is a gap in the visual market. I do not have stats or research on this and we may have to agree to disagree :) . I'm going to have to trawl Netflix and find this mountain of nude male content you say is there. I just wonder where and how I'm missing it. We don't have Hulu in Ireland. I know there is something called Passionflix I must check it out. I'm not really thinking about Hollywood or arty productions either. I am selfishly defining mainstream as anywhere I usually engage with visual stories. I'm waiting patiently on the new Bridgerton series which is shifting the goalposts. (No male nudity but it's yummy). Anyhoooo I'll keep writing erotic romance novels and have my screenplays lined up for production. I'll definitely send you a free ticket for the male nudity and swinging cocks. :)
Assuming this is not a rhetorical question but one asked out of ignorance. If you are asking for it in the genuine sense outside the venue of pornography there is always the plethora of arthouse movies that show up on streaming sites and equate to smut with a convoluted story. These streaming sites also provide you with classics like "Rome" and "Spartacus" which has its fair share of full male nudity. But if you're asking the more subtle question of why isn't it more commonplace the answer is as trite as the question in that the female form has always been the standard for the concept of human beauty. You can attach whatever political or social monikers to that way of thinking that you want but it doesn't dissuade the science of human psychology. It is not purely a male thing either, the majority of lesbian pornography is consumed by women. It is why effeminate men the world over are widely more accepted than masculine women. I bring up the concept of psychology because whether certain subgroups of our social and political diaspora want to admit it there is a difference in the way males and females perceive and approach the world. Inserting my own bias here because I am curious to know your own perspective, would you rather see the nudity itself, or have it described to you? I ask this because my personal take is to have it described or left vague for my own mind to fill in the blank, knowing my own fantasies will far outstrip the reality. I understand that everyone has their own personal taste but the scientific studies show us that males are visually driven creatures where females are more mentally driven, the entertainment industry has distilled this to a mathematical equation.
